Para Site and Spring Workshop have the pleasure to present the sound performance Terrestrial Excursions by Hong-Kai Wang in collaboration with Yong-Chih Chang, Steve Hui, Samson Young and Miu-Ling Lam at Spring Workshop on 15 September, 15:00 – 16:30hrs.
As part of the exhibition The Floating Eternity Project at Para Site, the sound performance will use conversation as a mechanism to explore the process and technology of reminiscence. In Taipei, Wang recorded a discussion between herself and the Taiwanese composer Yong-Chih Chang on their memories of Ching Ming – a tradition linked with tomb sweeping. Based on the transcription of the exchange, actors and collaborators Steve Hui, Miu-Ling Lam and Samson Young are invited to re-enact the conversation and intervene as a way of revealing to the audience the process of unfolding memories shaped by circumstance and context.
The performance will be followed by a short Q&A session with the artist and collaborators.
The Floating Eternity Project is on view at Para Site between 14 September and 10 November 2013. This group exhibition takes its point of departure from a 2012 architectural proposal by BREAD Studio for an offshore columbarium in Hong Kong. Featuring works by architects, writers and artists, the exhibition looks at issues of land scarcity, the formation of memory landscapes through the traditions of death and mourning; and the history of graveyards and burials in Hong Kong through a mix of newly commissioned and pre-existing works. The Floating Eternity Project is curated by Qinyi Lim.
