Talk by Maha Maamoun Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 12:30 – 14:00 hrs A Space, Asia Art Archive 10/F Hollywood Centre, 233 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Working primarily through photography and video, Maha Maamoun talks with curator Qinyi Lim about the development of her works, starting from Domestic Tourism II, presented in The Floating Eternity Project at Para Site (September-November 2013) and continuing with her most recent works, looking at the aftermath and recurring effects of the Arab Spring, such as Shooting Stars Remind Me of Eavesdroppers, featured in Golden Heights Estate. Maha Maamoun (b. 1972, California) lives and works in Cairo, Egypt. Working mainly through the mediums of photography and video, Maamoun often starts from generic visual representations of Cairo to explore how these intersect with and are negotiated by personal experiences. Maamoun’s work has been shown in biennials and exhibitions including: Homeworks 5 – Beirut (2010), Sharjah Biennial 9 (2009); Global Cities – Tate Modern (2007); 10th Venice Biennale of Architecture (2006); DAK’ART 6 (2004); 5th Biennale of African Photography – Bamako (2003). She was co-curator of PhotoCairo3 (2005). Maamoun is one of the founding members of CiC – The Contemporary Image Collective – a space for contemporary art and culture in Cairo.
