Para Site is pleased to present a series of public programmes comprising of guided tours, workshops, and screenings, taking place alongside Afterwork, our current major group exhibition exploring issues of class, race, labour, and migration in Hong Kong, its surrounding region, and beyond. Afterwork is part of Para Site’s ongoing Hong Kong’s Migrant Domestic Workers Project, a long-term initiative aimed at engaging the domestic worker community through collaboratively organised public programmes and commissioned artist research.
A series of public tours, hosted by the co-curators of Afterwork, will provide comprehensive insight behind the selection of art works and artists.
Starting on April 17th, Para Site will work in collaboration with Lensational on a series of photography workshops designed specially for domestic workers on Sundays. This is a year long collaboration, extending beyond the current exhibition. Taking place in Para Site’s Education Room and using art works presented in each exhibition as teaching reference, these workshops are meant to facilitate a dialogue between different communities and a deepening of understanding and appreciation of art.
Finally, our screening programme realised in collaboration with Taiwanese film critic Austin Hsu, creates parallel narratives and looks into the literal meaning of Afterwork, by taking place on three Sunday afternoons. Three films from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and United Arab Emirates, made from different perspectives, tell stories about how domestic/migrant workers struggle to pursue a better work/life balance and personal development, despite the limitations of time in everyday life.
